I can’t remember a time in my life when I was so eagerly anticipating rain. Guess the brown is really getting to me. Happily, rainy season is nearly upon us! The heavy rains that mark the official start have not yet happened, but we’re getting small showers here and there which are perking up the lawn and flowers.
In the last few weeks I was especially excited to see fruit start growing on our trees. I don’t know about you, but the only fruit tree I ever saw in Minnesota was an apple tree. So all these tropical fruit trees seem so fun and exotic!
Take these adorable mangoes, for example. They’re itty bitty right now but in a few short weeks we’ll be indulging in mango smoothies until we’re sick. I hope they’re as good as the ones in the Philippines were…
In addition to mangoes, we also have lemons/limes. Not sure which they actually are. Will have to taste to find out!
And can you believe it – PEACHES!?! Super jazzed about these.
But the fruit I’m most excited about is the avocado! I became obsessed with avocados while going sugar free and the idea of going to my back yard to pick one fresh off the tree makes me giddy with delight!
Aren’t they so cute?! Look how sweet they are.
In total I think we have 3 mango trees, 2 papaya trees, 1 guava tree, 1 lemon/lime tree, 1 peach tree and 1 avocado tree. Dang – we’re practically an orchard! Â :)
The garden is also starting to take shape, although it needs some renewed attention. Not everything took hold, so I’m hoping once the rains start that we’ll be able to get a few more varieties of things to grow. And don’t even get me started on the flower beds. We have A LOT of work to go on those.
We also have a delightful assortment of brightly flowered trees and shrubs that are starting to pop. I enjoy them so much.
A team of workers started yesterday to seed the lawn with grass. Hard to believe that in a few short weeks all that brown could be turned to green. Will keep you posted on the progress of that. And let’s all say a prayer that I’m contractor free by January 1, okay? Not sure if I can handle much more of this contract management stuff.
