Hard to believe, but today’s the big day. 9 months of waiting over. Now all that’s left is to make it through the 20 hours of flying with the 4 year old. Fear not though, we’re prepared! We took some tips from our other foreign service friends who’ve done long flights like this before and assembled an array of ‘plane presents’. Nia will be given a new present at the start of each hour (with a few exceptions). We thought you might enjoy seeing what we got, in case you ever have to prepare for your own 20 hour flight!

So there you have it. Let’s hope that she finds the things we picked engaging or it’s going to be a very loooong flight. This is twice as far as we’ve ever taken her (Peru was 8 or 9 hours away), so it has us a bit nervous. She’s a fairly good flyer though, so hopefully the excitement of it all will help smooth out any boredom or frustration that arise from being trapped in a plane for 20 hours.
Assuming I can find internet, I’ll do my best to check in once we arrive! Stay tuned for our first update from AFRICA!
