Hi All- One of my favorite annual traditions is to reflect on the year I’m finishing and set some intentions for the year ahead. This year I happened to stumble across a really great tool that is facilitating the process for me. It’s an online writing initiative titled #Reverb10.
So what is it? Basically, #Reverb10 is an online initiative that encourages participants to reflect on the year past and manifest what’s next for them. Essentially, it’s an opportunity to consider the reverberations of your past year, and be intentional about those you’d like to create in the year ahead.
This process is facilitated using a question a day from 31 different authors. Each day has a specific theme to it, which you’ll see noted below. The questions (or prompts, as they call them) can be found here: THE PROMPTS. Each one is meant to cause reflection on a different aspect of your life and help you determine if you’d like to shift anything about that area in 2011.
This is my second installment of questions. You can find the first HERE.
December 8 – Theme of the Day: Beautifully Different. Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful.
What makes me different:
- I radiate joy! My energy is infectious and naturally draws others toward me.
- I am a masterful creator who can take ideas from conception to completion in no time at all.
- I have very powerful intuition and can key in to the energetic states of those I am with.
- While coaching is my profession’s descriptor, I feel that what I actually do is emotional healing on a soul level.
- I have a never-ending love for life.
December 9 – Theme of the Day: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans.
The party that sticks with me most in 2010 was the Day I Spent In Bulacan with my Carewell Friends. What was so unique about this party was that it was a complete and absolute celebration of life. While the party came about ‘just because’, we found a real reason to celebrate when one of the attendees announced that her scan had come back cancer free!
As for the tangibles, I remember that the clothes were few (it was too hot), the food was plentiful and the karaoke machine rocked for hours. What I’ll never forget though is the vibrancy of their beings and how intoxicating it was to be in their presence! They were so ALIVE, despite the fact that many of them were dealing with stage-4 cancer.
December 10 – Theme of the Day: Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out?
After serious deliberation I’m going to have to declare a tie for my two wisest decisions this year because they’ve both felt so intuitively ‘right’ and taken my life in totally awesome new directions. The first was my decision to choose cancer patients as the population that I was going to focus on for my coaching. This made no sense from a head standpoint because I’ve never had cancer, but from a heart place I’ve never felt more sure of my choice. I truly believe that even more than chosen, I’ve been anointed to do this work, whether I’m ready for it or not.
Wise decision two was my choice to begin tithing. That practice has been so incredibly soul-satisfying and taught me on a whole new level what abundance feels like. The method in which I’ve chosen to tithe is so in sync with who I am, creating a sacred space for me to honor the chosen individual and thank the Universe for all the blessings that continue to flow through my life.
December 11 – Theme of the Day: 11 Things. What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011?
- Self-doubt
- Playing small
- To not take my work seriously
- Fear-based motivation
- Tunnel-vision
- Copying instead of creating
- Rational, analytic decision making – I’m better when I choose from my heart/intuition
- Anxiety
- Impatience
- Too much time hanging out with my gremlin
How will you go about eliminating them? I will notice and name the emotion I’m feeling, then determine what thought caused me to feel that way. I will then ask myself why I’m choosing to feel this way and if I want to do something about it.
How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life? It will help me fulfill my goal of living from a place of Inspired Action.
December 12 – Theme of the Day: Body Integration. This year, when did you feel the most integrated with your body? Did you have a moment where there wasn’t mind and body, but simply a cohesive YOU, alive and present?
I have a very challenging time being present in my body, so this is definitely the toughest question for me today. I did not have a moment this year when my mind and body felt cohesive (they’re usually at war and I suspect will be for a long time), but I did have just a cool body moment that I’ll share.
When I was assisting with training a new batch of coaches this fall, I felt myself overcome by this immense pride for my profession and the fact that I get paid to do this life-changing work. And compounding that was the realization that I was helping to ‘birth’ new coaches who would also change lives. It was a bit too much to take in and I noticed that my whole body started to tingle. Now usually when I have a sensation like that it flares and quickly passes. This was very different, as the tingling stayed with me for hours. I have no idea what was happening on a physiological level, but the entire experience was very moving and once again affirmed to me that I’ve found my life’s work.
December 13 – Theme of the Day: Action. When it comes to aspirations, it’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen. What’s your next step?
I’ve hired a coach for myself in 2011 and feel confident that she’s going to help me unearth some of the blocks that are preventing me from stepping into my greatness.
December 14 – Theme of the Day: Appreciate. What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?
Oh, this is an easy one: My husband, Nicholas. He has been so insanely rock-solid over the last year. My husband is truly unwavering in his love and support for me. Given that I embrace the full range of my emotions (and frequently am at the extremes), I’ve come to appreciate his even-keeled nature. He truly is the yin to my yang and we make beautiful music together.
I express gratitude for him in small ways – saying I love him, scratching his head, acknowledging him when I witness him doing something remarkable, and being his champion.
