Hi – This is Nia. This is my second blog post. We got to go to Bhutan last week and see this really cool Dzong (or fortress) in Punakha. I’m going to tell you about it in this post. And just in case you were wondering, I took all these pictures! Let’s get touring!
This is the entrance to the bridge. It has beautiful paintings along the entrance.
There were lots of stray dogs in Bhutan and these two were chillaxing as they “guarded†the bridge.
This is the view from the bridge. It’s the river that runs through Punakha.
After crossing the bridge, we came to the entrance. There were 3 stairways. The left was for the men/boys, the right was for the women/girls and the middle was only for the King and Queen. You can’t see it well here, but the middle steps were gold-colored.
This is a prayer wheel that was at the top of the steps. Most Bhutanese people worship Buddha and this wheel is a form of meditation for them. When you spin it around, it rings a bell at the top.
This tree was in the middle of the fortress/dzong. It was special because it was a seed from the tree that Buddha originally meditated under in India.
Here is a beautiful carving that was hand-carved. I liked it because it has a dragon on it and I LOVE dragons. I thought it was so cool that Bhutan had so many dragons in their art.
On the way out of the Dzong, we came across something really cool – a giant school of fish right under the bridge. I have a joke for you. Why did the fish cross the stream? Because it needed to get to school. Ha ha…
