As with all things in this pregnancy, I am finding it impossible to wait. Â Yes, I could hold out on you and not tell what the name is till the birth. Â But that’s just not my style!
Surprisingly, we settled on one of the first names we came up with. Â We both intuitively knew that it was THE NAME.
We chose Nia for a variety of reasons:
- It’s not super common, but easy to pronounce and spell
- The alliteration is fantastic (try saying it 10 times fast)
- It’s short and sweet
- Most importantly, it means “RADIANT” in Gaelic. Â Definitely the perfect meaning for a babe that’s been grown in my womb!
So there you have it folks!
PS – The middle name is still being determined. Â I just want something that sounds good, Nick wants the middle name to have significance. Â We’ll keep you posted!
I just returned from doing my Thursday NIA class. What a GREAT name. I didn’t know that NIA meant radiant – now I know why I feel that way after each class! What a great name for a child to grow up with. Good choice!! XO
Beautiful name :) LOVE it!
Love the name from its sound to its meaning! Great choice!
Heyy! Nia sounds a lot like someone else’s name I know .. hmm can’t think who … haha ;) LOVE IT!!!
Love the name Nia!
BEAUTIFUL! I love it! Well chosen, Mom and Dad! :-D
We have a little Mia … because of what it means when paired with her middle name … because it’s hard to “nickname” or “shorten” and because it wasn’t crazy popular …
I am love with your little Nia’s name and all of your reasons too!
Good work, friend!
(hm – middle names … they can be tricky!)
Love it!. I like the ring of “Nia Joyce Novak” after my stunning aunt, though ;) Well done you two. I am living vicariously through you two and all your ‘finding outs’ and ‘name giving aways’ we are so ‘secret secret’ in baby making (courtesy of Paul, I just humored him) but love that you are shouting it from the rooftops. Hope you are feeling great!! Love to all three of you…
I LOVE it Sarah!! What a beautiful choice you and Nick made!
Elise, How did you get so smart? That’s why your my favorite niece. AJ
OMG – it’s our daughter’s name and we absolutely love it. We picked it because it was short and unusual. It’s also an old Bulgarian/Greek name, short for Stefania and Eugenia. I did not know that it meant radiant in Gaelic but it means purpose in Swahili. How cool is that! Great choice, you guys! Hopefully our Nia will get to meet your Nia!
I know!! You have the only Nia I’ve ever heard of!! It’s so beautiful… it feels like the perfect choice for our babe! Our Nia’s will definitely have to meet!
