with Penzey’s Spices! A couple years back I took a cooking class at the Kitchen Window and they went on and on about how the only place that you should ever buy spices is from Penzey’s. I had never heard of this crazy place, but all I could think of were Pirates every time the chef talked about it. So then I move into the Grand Avenue neighborhood and lo and behold, the mysterious Penzey’s is within walking distance of my house. If I’m being honest, I must say that I haven’t purchased much there yet. There are over 250 spices inside and I seem to get paralyzed by all the choices and just wander around with a dazed look on my face. I am determined to be decisive though and take some with me to Manila! Here are a few things I like about Penzey’s:

- They have great gift sets/boxes/crates (Perfect for summer Bdays, weddings and Mothers/Fathers Day) ranging from $20 to $200.
- You can buy spices in bags, allowing for cost savings and the ability to refill jars you already have.
- They are located all over the country or you can have them shipped to your house.
Usage Note: Remember to always write the month and year of purchase on the jar. Most spices are only at their peak for 6-9 months! By dating it at purchase, you’ll know when it’s time to get a refill.
