So our little lady turned 5 this past weekend. She is becoming such a cool little person and I’m eager to see what year 5 will bring us. She’s very inquisitive, kind and been really amazing at sharing her things (especially with Michelle and Evelyn).
She’s also really into the alphabet, especially this brilliant British book called Letterland. We’ve started letting her play some older kid games that Mommy & Daddy enjoy too (Yay!) and she catches on quickly although her attention span is often only 15-20 minutes, which makes it hard to finish a game. We’ll keep working on it, for sure, as we plan to be a gaming family! Â :)
Nia’s party was from 2-5 PM on Saturday at Fun City, a local amusement park place for kids. We invited Schorasticah’s girls of course (pictured above with Nia) and a mix of kids from the Embassy and her preschool. We had about 12 show up, which was a nice amount.
It wasn’t the classiest party room, but they tried hard and that’s what counts. And this is Africa, after all (sometimes I forget that and have my expectations set at US levels for things like service and execution). What matters most is that Nia had an absolute blast.
Fun City has a variety of outdoor things for kids – climbing walls, trampolines, a playground and rides. When the power’s out (which is about 20 hours a day lately) the train won’t work but if Nia asks nice enough they will occasionally push the train around the track. The carousel is also a big hit, even though it’s a bit rickety and has a tendency to throw the child forward when it starts up (I always remind Nia to hang on tight). The great thing is that kids don’t care and I’m just thankful that we have a place like this to visit.
Here’s Nia sitting on her birthday chair (a giant hand covered in tulle). She opted for a Sophia the 1st theme.
IÂ had forgotten how exhausting Birthday week is. Nia is amped up on a normal day, let alone her ‘special day’. It was challenging to maintain that balance between having fun and spiraling into meltdown mode. We seem to cross that tipping point so easily and I wanted this to be a good weekend for everyone. Happily, it all came out pretty well. And now, excuse me while I go take a nap. I’m wiped from all the fun! Â :)
