So last Wednesday I went to the doctor because my nose piercing was infected (I’ve had it 4 months and it’s been infected on and off throughout). Â During the appointment he removed the jewelry and said I needed to start on Antibiotics and return on Monday (today, 5 days later). Â The good news is that the antibiotics worked and the infection is gone BUT THE HOLD CLOSED in the process.
Dang it!
Did I mention how much I like my piercing? Â I know that may seem strange to some of you, but in my post-baby world where I rarely get to put make-up on anymore, having a no-maintenance adornment makes me feel both beautiful and unique. Â So no, I did not want to give it up without a fight. Â Props to the Doc because he was in no way judgmental and was happy to honor my wishes for what I wanted done.
After 5 minutes of hemming and hawing, I gave the go-ahead to have the hole re-opened.
Moment 1 when I doubted my decision was when the tears started streaming out of the corner of my eyes and we didn’t even have the jewelry in yet.
Moment 2 when I doubted my decision was when I got up to look at it after and promptly knew that I was about to pass out (luckily, I made it back to the bed in time, but I was rapidly losing all my color). Â Good thing it was already in by that point!
I did survive though and earned the praise of “Muy Valiente” (very brave) from the Doctor. Â I’m pretty sure he thought I was loco, but whatever, at least I got what I came for! Â Any more infections and it has to be gone for good though. Â Cross your fingers that I can keep it healthy…
Congrats, valiant one! One tip from a former nose-piercing fan: make sure you are wearing stainless steel jewelry, not silver. It can make a big difference to avoid infection. :)
Holy moly, woman! You ARE brave!
I called my piercing place and it is stainless steel. I’m glad I can rule that out!
Hooray! I also loved my cute little diamond stud that once adorned my nose. I took it out when I joined the Army and then I had my son and well–I miss it so much but have the lame attitude of “well, I’m a mom now.” Not that the two are even connected, but it’s just me being weird LOL! I think that when the right inspiration hits I will get it re-pierced :)
I’m sorry it hasn’t worked out much yet! I hope that infection was the last! I love my piercing and would hate to have to get rid of it. I understand your desire to keep it.
Ouch! I had my pierced the last day of school last year – piercings is not exactly welcomed teaching in a U.S. public school district ;-) I was afraid it would get infected while in Guatemala this summer but it never did. It has a corkscrew curl on the inside and sometimes it shows which I’d rather it not – so I’m think of changing it out for something different, but I love that’s its tiny and aquamarine…and like you – I hardly get to wear make up anymore so it makes me feel hip…and not (almost) 38 :-)
:) You’ll know when it’s right. It definitely makes me feel like a more ‘hip’ mom!
I didn’t know you had one! Way cool…
Oh, we’re hip all right! I have the corkscrew too. Kind of weird but I’m getting more used to it.
