My daughter is a drama queen. Â Drama queen with a CAPITAL D. Â Her intensity is unparalleled. Â She can go from dawn to dusk and has recently decided that she isn’t interested in sleeping (LUCKY US).
Last night she didn’t feel like going to bed. Â We insisted and let her cry a bit in her crib, hoping (praying, really) that she’d go to sleep. Â 10 minutes later she’d worked herself up into a gasping sobbing fit, so much so that when Nick picked her up, she vomited the contents of her bottle all over Nick and the room (wall, crib, floor – you name it, it got hit).
Now, one might instinctively think she was sick (which we did initially), but upon bringing her to our bed to recover, she was immediately cooing and ready to play again. Â Oh yeah, and she didn’t have a temperature.
Unfortunately for Lupe, Nia took the violence up a notch today – when she didn’t feel like taking her nap, she expressed her displeasure by sinking her teeth into Lupe’s arm!
As you can see above, Lupe sustained quite the war wound. Â I shudder to think what Ms. Nia will try next in an attempt to avoid sleeping….
It’s not totally uncommon for little ones to wage psychological warfare when it comes to sleeping! My niece used to get so upset and worked up at the prospect of going to sleep that she’d vomit every single time. Of course mom and dad would then let her sleep with them. So she won. And she knew very well what she was doing in her game of manipulation. It always amazes me how smart these munchkins are from day 1!!
I feel for you. My now 2.5 yr old was a horrible sleeper. It wasn’t until 16 to 18 months that I finally got her to sleep through the nap and take proper naps; naps which lasted until her was just over 2. Thankfully she sleeps well at night now. Good luck!
We are in the middle of sleep wars right now too! Maybe it’s the age. Ashlynn is waking up every two to three hours all night. We’re letting her cry when she wakes up but i think it has a lot to do with her room being connected to ours so she knows I’m there. Ugh! None of my babies slept so I’m used to it but I’m also seriously ready to start sleeping like a normal human being again!
Stella would get so mad from crying she would puke. We were never able to let her cry it out because she would just puke it out if we did. Later when she was older she once didn’t want to wear a dress I picked out. I insisted, she puked. She won. She still has a pretty sensitive gag reflex and every time she gets sick she just looses her cookies. Good luck with that, its tough but kids need sleep and Nia needs to learn how to go to sleep. God speed! It gets better (until you have more).
The crazy thing with kids is that just when you think you have a nice pattern down – BAM – it changes! That never fails to throw me for a loop…
Yikes, I genuinely hope this stage passes quickly… it’s making mommy crabby.
I don’t know how you did it for so many years in a row. It is taking a serious toll on me!
Oh man, that sounds rough. I had no idea that kids could make themselves puke! They are smart little buggers indeed.
